An interesting archival fond is to be found in the Archives of the Republic of Slovenia. It is named SI AS 173 The property book for Carniola (1539- 1871). The fond contains 25 books, where property income of the property owners in Carniola expressed in monetary form is entered. These property incomes initially arose only from the payments in money and contributions in kind, and after tax rectification in 1747 also from dominical lands. The data from the property books were for purely tax purposes. Since land proprietors were entered in property books, the latter became a welcome basis for establishing a land board after the tax rectification, however, with the implementation of a land register land board lost all significance and was abolished in 1871. In the second part of this article, certain members of the noble family Semenič who appeared in Bela krajina in the 14th century are presented through concrete examples of entries in property books.
