Abstract
- In general terms, among the materials published in podiatry journals, articles reporting research and literature reviews represent the most academic genres. Other sections, especially lead editorials, when they are published, tend to appeal more to group cohesion and reinforce a sense of identity in a more visible way. Editorials act as the voice of a journal's publishers, and often of the whole professional group. As the opening text of a journal issue, editorials are often presented as letters from the editor, or they use the sort of attention-grabbing headlines that are often present in journalistic rhetoric, often highly effective in the use or metaphor, as this paper will show. This article focuses on the function of the institutional voice as it acts to guide the professional direction of the field of podiatry in general. This influence is possible thanks to the editorials in the specialized journals, where different types of discourse coexist. We will observe different approaches taken by editorials with a wide range of functions and purposes, but which, overall, work to set the course of the profession as a whole. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
