Objective: to reflect on obstetric nursing care based on Kristen Swanson's Theory of Care. Method: this is a reflexive study that addresses the structure of care proposed by Kristen Swanson correlated to the care practice of Obstetric Nursing. Results: Nursing care theory, related to processes that give meaning to care - to maintain beliefs, to know, to be with, to do for and to enable, in maternal and child care practice contributes to the strengthening of the theoretical and philosophical foundations that support Nursing care . Conclusion: the article made possible the reflection on the use of a theory that covers the structure of care in obstetric nursing, which contributes to the significance of the caring process in the pregnancy-puerperal cycle.
