Abstract

The article discusses the importance of improving handovers in nursing practice to improve care and optimising patient outcomes. Royal College of Nursing head of nursing practice Wendy Preston argues that handovers need the robust governance that is characteristic of other elements of nursing practice. Clinical research manager Jane Bruton said that improving communication makes nurses' working lives easier. Challenges presented by handovers in the community are mentioned.
