Abstract
- Introduction As a result of their role, nursing staff is exposed to a number of occupational hazards. Being at risk to harming and dangerous factors as well as being under psycho-social pressure may lead to accidents at work, reduce the effectiveness of the employee, or negatively affect health. Aim The diagnosis of harmful factors which exist in the working environment, and their influence on health of nurses working in treatment wards. Material and methods 200 nurses (100 working in treatment wards and 100 working in internal medicine wards) participated in the research carried in 2017. The author's questionnaire consisting of three parts was used. Participation in the research was voluntary and anonymous. Results The studied groups did not differ significantly in terms of age and professional experience. Both groups did vary in regard to education. The respondents self-assessed their health both on a global scale as well as in specific domains related to physical health, emotional state, and social functioning. Comparative analysis using an independence test and Mann-Whitney U test allowed a thorough assessment. The results were not statistically different regarding type of department. Conclusions Biological, chemical, physical, and psychological factors have the greatest influence on health of the nursing staff. Treatment ward staff is exposed to harmful factors which may have direct influence on the deterioration of health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
