Abstract

This article profiles Mexico City, Mexico-based artist Trini, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium, where she earned a degree in painting, Trini who goes by a single name has lived and worked in Mexico City for the past 18 years. "My pictures are always about the city; I'm interested in urban life and in capturing its energy," she says of her brushy, slightly abstract, acrylic-on-canvas images of cars, pedestrians and building facades, which often appear in shadows or cast long, dramatic shadows themselves. The artist has won prizes for her work in Belgium and Mexico but is most proud of her grand prize in painting at the 1999 Monterrey Biennial in the northern-Mexico city that has become a showcase for contemporary art events of international significance.
