Abstract

The article discusses the growth of the Putian system, an affiliated network of private hospitals in Putian, China, and the impact of a scandal to the business. A brief history of the network is provided including its promises of well-trained specialists and quick appointments. Also discussed are the scandal involving the death of a university student after a doctor treated his cancer with a discredited form of immunotherapy and problems with private hospitals regulated by local governments
