Abstract
- A plan by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg that eliminates summer school nurses by cutting the 2.5 million dollars allocated to run the program has come under sharp criticism from the president of the Borough of Manhattan, C. Virginia Fields who said that while the mayor and his schools chancellor may boast about their efforts to reform the public school system, their current plan involving children's health care may have a detrimental effect on a child's ability to receive proper medical attention. Fields believes that the real problem is the mayor's inability to properly set priorities when it comes to meeting needs of the estimated 195,000 children who will be attending summer school this year.
