Overview of intermediate highway cross-sections.

The paper presents an overview of safety and insights regarding traffic at highway intermediate cross-sections in the interurban highway network. This overview includes rigid and soft 'one plus one' cross-sections, passing lanes traffic and geometric characteristics, as well as criteria for widening a two-lane highway to form a divided multilane highway. The design overview of intermediate highway cross-sections includes traffic and safety warrants, design speed characteristics and cross-section infrastructure components, including elements that enhance traffic safety.
