Abstract

Overpass bridge of the L 3378 road near Fulda‐Lehnerz. First application of UHPC in road bridge construction in Germany. Part 2 In the course of the federal highway B27 UHPC was used for the first time in cast‐in‐situ bridge construction in Germany. Presently, UHPC is not covered by any German standard. Therefore, an approval for this individual application case was necessary. The bridge superstructure has been designed as 4‐web T‐beam construction made of prestressed concrete with a top layer made of in‐situ normal strength concrete and UHPC, respectively. Because of UHPC's high impermeability against liquids, the cost and timely intensive application on a waterproofing was waived. Besides its strengthening abilities the applied UHPC layer with a thickness of 70 mm is intended to effect as a sealing. Additionally to its average compressive strength of > 150 MPa the applied UHPC has been specifically developed to enable a bridge inclination of 3.5 %. In total, 57 m3 of UHPC was produced in a concrete plant and transported and cast on site. By this pilot project, the successful practicability of using UHPC as strengthening and waterproofing measure in bridge construction in Germany could be demonstrated.
