Abstract

This article aims to analyze the characteristics of the Latin American immigrant formally employed in the Brazilian labor market. Using the data from the Annual Report of Social Information (RAIS), we conducted an analysis of the sociodemographic, economic and labor insertion profile of Latin American formal workers between 2006 and 2016. The results showed that the profile of Latin American immigrants changed significantly in the last 10 years. If, by the mid-2000s, the arrival of older, better-educated Latin Americans was more common, and these were employed in more technical and creative occupations, the scene shifted to a younger, less qualified migration allocated to operational and more repetitive sectors. Even so, RAIS data do not include informal workers, self-employed and employed in firms with up to 10 employees. As future researches, comparative analyzes are proposed with other countries of origin, as well as studies at municipal level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
