Abstract

The main preconditions for the sustainable development concept spreading over the world as a ground for transformation of the national economy structure are researched in the paper; scientific theories in which they are reflected are systematized. The essence of the term "sustainable development" and related economic terms are analyzed, the main components (social, ecological, economic) and the guidelines of this concept are singled out. The emphasis is placed on the relationship between the concept of sustainable development and the theory of capital conservation, which involves the allocation of two types of sustainability - strong and weak. This feature is the basis of the national economy structural transformation, which involves the allocation of "ecologically destructive" type of economy structure, but with varying degrees of application of appropriate economic and environmental instruments.
