Abstract
- Brown planthopper (BPH) is the most important pest in rice. In Indonesia, the first of BHP outbreak was happened after the Goverment introduced new rice variety with high production. To control this pest, Goverment released resistance varieties (VUTW), but this pest attack always happens. Actually, Indonesia has many local rice varieties that have adapted with this pests. The purpose of this research was to know the growth of brown planthoppers population on some local rice varieties and resistance varieties (VUTW). The test varieties were local varieties/without resistant gene (bph) such as Rojolele, Rojopusur, Pandanwangi, Situbagendit and VUTW such as Ciherang, Membramo, and IR64. Infestation of BPH was done twenty five days after transplanting (DAT) by five pairs of BHP. This results showed the death of adults were infested (F0) on Rojolele were begun at 9 DAI while on IR 64 at 4 DAI. The periods development of nymphs and adults were about 13-17 and 9-11 days. The highest population of nymph was Membramo and the lowest was Situbagendit. The populations of BPH on VUTW (IR 64) were not significantly different for local varieties (Rojolele, Rojopusur, and Situbagendit). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
