Abstract

The article presents a case study of a 6-year-old white male who was taken to the hospital due unusual fever and headache. He underwent diagnostic tests and was found to have Balamuthia mandrillaris meningoencephalitis, a free-living ameba existing as motile, infectious trophozoites, and environmentally enduring cysts. The lack of treatment guidelines for Balamuthia mandrillaris due to very low incidence and survival rates is discussed.
