Abstract

An essay is presented that examines what are identified as the competing postindustrial frameworks of choice and working family for family income and the gender role of working mothers in the U.S. during the administration of U.S. president Ronald Reagan in the 1980s, particularly focusing on private sector and public welfare solutions to social and political questions.
