Abstract: The article discusses the project Cape Citizen Science, an initiative to engage nonscientists in plant disease research. Particular focus is given to outreach to learners grades 9 to 12 from South Africa. Additional topics discussed include underprivileged learners in South Africa, the encouragement of scientists to reach out to their fellow citizens, and efforts to create science enthusiasts in society.
