Red Hat AS 3.0: A First Look.

This article evaluates the computer software Red Hat AS 3.0 from Red Hat. Capabilities of the software include mail, TUX kernel accelerated Web server, arptables firewall, network authentication, and support for AMD 64, among others. The installation went without glitches. Drivers were available for the RAID card and for the 1 Gigabit Ethernet card. During the installation you can configure logical volumes which serve as containers for the various file systems. Red Hat could do a little better in configuration. The whole idea behind AS 3.0 is to have a controlled environment for which Red Hat can give technical support. After a few stress tests, the AS 3.0 just went on undisturbed. AS 3.0 has taken a big step towards a real industrial strength, enterprise class server environment, comparable finally to the likes of HP-UX and AIX.
