Abstract

The article provides an overview of the political, economic, and social conditions in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville in Papua New Guinea (PNG) in 2017. Topics covered include peacekeeping efforts to end the conflict that begin in the 1980s over the Panguna gold and copper mine, independence referendums, and the activism of the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG).
