Abstract

How does one particular issue get in the the governmental agenda, leading the government to develop public policies to deal with a specific problem? Given the large number of events, issues and problems that exist on a day-to-day basis, calling for attention of government actors, how issues are prioritized? These are some of the issues faced by researchers who are dedicated to studying the process governamental agenda-setting. The purpose of this paper is to resume these studies based on three research traditions of agenda-setting, identified by Dearing and Rogers (1996). We highlight particularly the connections between studies conducted in the field of public policies, focusing the governmental agenda, and studies related to the research tradition of political communication. We understand that both traditions not only register common theoretical and methodological issues but can benefit from one another. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
