Abstract

The article cities a research study that describes a mechanism for preventing the thinning and weakening of Ross ice shelves in Antarctica. It has been found that this thinning and weakening is primarily driven by warm ocean water entering into the shelf cavities. Basal channels underneath the shelves cause ice thinning.
