Abstract

The article discusses the challenges that immigration policy, nationalism and national identity pose to the Europe Union (EU) and European integration. An overview of conflicting border control policies among EU countries within the context of the European refugee crisis, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel's policy towards refugees, is provided.
