Abstract

The article discusses strategic response to an outbreak of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 in the Syrian Arab Republic from 2017 to 2018. Topics covered include the civil war in the Syrian Arab Republic that began in 2011, the lack of routine immunization services in parts of the country, and the use of the vaccination status of patients aged 6 to 59 months with non-polio acute flaccid paralysis as a proxy for oral poliovirus vaccine vaccination coverage.
