Abstract

Nine species of earthworms, including Diplocardia hebi n. sp., are reported from the East Frio River Watershed in Real County, Texas, USA: Amynthas gracilis, Amynthas morrisi, Aporrectodea rosea, Bimastos tumidus, Diplocardia invecta, Metaphire californica, Microscolex dubius, and Microscolex phosphoreus. Additional specimens indicate at least four other taxa of megadriles: Diplocardia sp. 1, Diplocardia sp. 2, Ocnerodrilidae sp. and Sparganophilus sp. Soil and site characteristics further describe earthworm ecology in a canyonland environment. Diplocardia hebi shares a similar morphology to D. invecta. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
