Abstract: Current challenges and future developments for bridge constructions in the federal highway network. In order to keep traffic routes working continuous maintenance, adaptations and developments are required. Regarding federal highways these processes have reached an extraordinary dynamic stage. There are several reasons that finally led to a significant increase of financial resources for federal highway infrastructure. Challenges and opportunities arise particularly in the field of bridge engineering.
