Abstract

This study investigated whether the frequency of matches as starter and the time in the team are intervening factors in the group cohesion perception among high performance futsal players. The subjects were 301 athletes (25.48±4.90 years), representatives of the 19 teams participating in the National Futsal League 2013. The instruments were The Group Environment Questionnaire (GEQ) and a semi-structured questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted through Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Kruskal- -Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests and Spearman's correlation (p<0.05). The results showed that starters and who were in the team for more than a year perceived to be more individually involved (Individual Attraction to Group-Task) with team's goals (p<0.05). There was a significant (p<0.05) and positive correlation of time within the team and Group-Integration Task (r=0.40) and Individual Attraction to Group-Task (r=0.27) for athletes who always played as starters. For those who are never starters, time within the team correlated with Individual Attraction to Group-Task (r=0.30). It is concluded that stability of the players within the team (starter and time within the team) is an intervening factor in the athlete's involvement with the team goals in the of the high performance futsal context.
