Abstract

The samarium doped MgZnO2 phosphor was synthesized by the low-cost combustion method. The powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the crystallinity and phase purity of the phosphor. The lattice parameters were determined by indexing the diffraction peaks. The photoluminescence (PL) study revealed that the phosphor exhibited a broad excitation band in the UV region ranging between 200 to 350 nm. The 601 nm emission was ascribed to 4G5/2 to 6H7/2 transitions of the Sm3+ ion. The optical bandgap of MgZnO2:Sm3+ was obtained to be 3.56 eV. The phosphor can be projected as a useful material in X- and gamma-ray scintillators. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
