Abstract

The article focuses on the discovery of stone tools used by hominins used to butcher a dead rhino on Luzon, Philippine around 700,000 years ago, prior to Homo sapiens emergence in Africa. It states Homo erectus and ancestors of the Denisovans may have been in the region. It speculates how the hominids reached the islands and if they were ancestors of Homo floresiensis which are also known as "hobbits" due to their small stature. It suggests early hominins may have traveled on mangrove rafts.
