Abstract

Editorial. Offers a look at raised cardiac troponins as biomarkers for the diagnosis of diseases. Decision of the European Society of Cardiology, the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association that raised cardiac troponins are a standard biomarker for the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction and for diagnosis and management of acute coronary syndromes; Report that cardiac troponins are raised in many patients with conditions other than acute coronary syndromes; Importance of electrocardiograms and clinical investigations in diagnosis; Immunological tests offered by various manufacturers for the detection of troponins; Mechanisms leading to raised troponins.
