Abstract

A simple gauge made either of metal or plastic has been described. This is ideally suited for the correct measurement of paper points but it may also be used for the accurate setting of root canal instruments used during endodontic therapy. Once the length of the tooth has been established the gauge is set at this length and the instrument stops are placed at the correct points, simply by pushing the instrument along to the predetermined setting without the need for taking a separate measurement. The stop has previously been placed on the instrument and this stop is rested against the side of the gauge. Any method of sterilization may be used which includes autoclaving, dry heat or gaseous.
