Abstract

The paper concerns the study of mechanical and tribological characteristics of hardfaced layers of dispersive reinforced material in pure aluminium metal matrix. The wear resistant coatings were deposited by shielded gas metal-arc welding applying either metal inert gas (MIG) or tungsten inert gas (TIG), with standard wire filler onto the buffer layer -- a baked resistant film containing metalised and flux coated micro/nano SiC particles. The hardfaced layers were studied by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray microanalysis (EDX). Nanoindentation and wear resistance tests were carried out.
