Abstract

The article presents a case study of patient hospitalized for general weakness and left knee pain, with a medical history of type II diabetes and gout. On finding elevated serum uric acid and c-reactive protein (CEP), allopurinol and prednisolone was introduced, but patient developed thoracolumbar back pain associated with episodic pyrexia and hypotension. Tomography confirmed monosodium urate crystals, due to gout, which was normalized by colchicine.
