The Jahn-Teller distortion influenced ferromagnetic order in Pr1-xLaxMnO3.

Abstract

The structural and magnetic properties of Pr 1- x La x MnO 3 (0 ≤  x  ≤ 1) polycrystalline powders are investigated. A structural phase transition from a large Jahn-Teller (J-T) distorted orthorhombic structure to a small J-T distorted orthorhombic phase is found at x  = 0.70, while the LaMnO 3 is showed to have a rhombohedral structure. All the samples exhibit ferromagnetic ordering, and meanwhile, a reentrant spin glass behavior at low temperature. The relationship between J-T distortions and the ferromagnetic order is discussed.
