The article reports on a study of black and minority ethnic (BME) patients in a high-security hospital that recorded their experiences of marginalisation and inequality. Topics discussed include evidence about the over-representation of BME people in Great Britain's mental health and legal systems, recommendations for practice and another study which found that physical restraint was seen as a means for staff to control difficult situations in what can be a volatile environment.
