Abstract: The reaction of methyl aroylpyruvates with 2-(4-aminobenzenesulfamido)thiazole (norsulfazole) in glacial acetic acid in the presence of anhydrous sodium acetate furnished 4-aryl-2-hydroxy-4-oxo-<italic>N</italic>-{4-[(1,3-thiazol-2-yl)sulfamoyl]phenyl}but-2-eneamides.
