Abstract

Research can (or should) provide a large amount of applicable results as well as funds for teams of involved researchers. Protection of intellectual property rights is one of significant presumptions of successful business with promising research results. The paper consists of three research parts targeting intellectual property protection of applied research outputs. In the first one there is an analysis of the Czech governmental methodology evaluating research results of each research team in the country and within it the teams are financially supported. The second part analyses criteria for appointment of associated and full professors at three selected Czech universities. The third part of the presented research introduces qualitative research done with researchers dealing with biotechnological research in the Czech Republic as a group of researchers performing a particular type of applied research. Fifty-three biotechnological researchers selected from universities, scientific institutions of Academy of Science, other public institutions and private companies divided into four groups by their seniority answered five questions. They are as follows: "What system of research results management is applied in your institution?", "What way of publicat ion do you prefer?", "What do you know about research results patenting?", "What is your practical experience with patenting?" and "How are ethical aspects involved in your research?" The research of all three parts is summarized using a SWOT analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
