Abstract

This paper presents a comparative diagnosis, in terms of productivity and competitiveness, between the agricultural sectors of Mexico and 18 economies of apec in the period 1980-2015. The Mexican agricultural sector is a fundamental and traditional element of the national dynamics. Therefore, establishing mechanisms that improve their productivity and competitiveness in the apec region is essential for the country to aspire to higher levels of economic development. In order to determine the productivity and competitiveness of the Mexican agricultural sector in apec, the Total Productivity of the Factors of Hernández Laos (1993) and of the Competitiveness Revealed by Balassa (1965) and Vollrath (1991) were used. The results of the models show that the agricultural sector of Mexico had a revealed competitiveness in relation to the Brunei, China, South Korea, Japan, Peru, Russia and Singapore, being the partial productivity of the work its main determinant.
