Abstract
- The article examines settler colonialism in the U.S. with regard to the myths related to pioneers in Confederate monuments from 1890 to 2017. Topics include the importance of the frontier to American history, the displacement and decimation of Native Americans by Anglo-Americans, how the monuments celebrate the racial dominance of whites, and the metaphoric elimination of the Native in Mississippi.
