Abstract

This paper explores how motivation for change is related in juvenile offenders with attributions of responsibility and engagement with educators. A sample of 22 youngsters in a center for juvenile offenders in the Canary Islands (Spain) was used. After carrying out a process of interviewing and completion of scales of criterion variables (readiness and confidence) and predictor variables (attribution and bond), Fisher’s exact test and multiple correspondence analysis was used. Results show that attributions of responsibility are not associated with readiness nor confidence, but with bond (p < .01). As a conclusion, it would be useful to recognize and value the bond between youngsters and the educational team, since it mobilizes changes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
