Abstract
- Tannin rich fraction (TRF) isolated from hydroalcoholic extract of Terminalia chebula characterized by Liquid Chromatography- Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) tested positive for the presence of gallic acid, methyl gallate, corilagin, chebulagic acid, and chebulinic acid. The anti-inflammatory activity of TRF was studied in in vitro models in which TRF showed dose-dependent increase in in vitro anti-inflammatory activities. At 250 µgmL-1, TRF exhibited 84.48, 84.33, 81.98, and 82.3% inhibition of protein denaturation, membrane lysis, proteinase, and hyaluronidase enzyme activities, respectively. The binding efficacy of individual hydrolysable tannins with various therapeutic targets was studied by in silico docking analysis which showed that corilagin possessed higher negative docking score, indicating good interaction for few therapeutic target proteins related to anti-inflammatory action.
