PRO-HEALTH EFFECTS OF TAEKWONDO TRAINING BY YOUTH - SELECTED ASPECTS.

Abstract

Background: The style of our life, our decisions and behavior are immediately connected with the state of our health, increase the risk of illness. Lifestyle, including the participation in different forms of activities, is characterized by the dynamics of changes and increased abilities of adaptation to changing life. Taekwon-offers a variety of physical and mental benefits. The purpose of this study was to assess selected aspects of the impact of practicing taekwondo on health-related behaviors. Method: The study sample consisted of 31 taekwon-do athletes (age: 18.83±3.49 years). Standardized Inventory of Health Behaviours and our questionnaire were applied.The research was conducted by those who are familiar with the environment of people practicing taekwon-do. Results: The correlation between the frequency of training and ability to prolonged exercise was observed r=0.63; p<0.05. Participation in taekwon-do trainings is beneficial for health oriented customs (r=0.64; p<0.05). More than 98% of responds noticed an increased ability to long lasting varied efforts. Conclusions: The majority of taekwon-do athletes noticed an increased level of well-being. The respondents spontaneously indicated new aspects of their own life in which they see the beneficial impact of taekwon-do on their everyday physical and psychical functioning. The empirical material allowed for forming the following conclusions: regular participation in trainings takes an important place in the structure of the activity of adolescent youth. When the trainings are regular, the effects cumulate. Participation in trainings is beneficial for "health oriented" customs. If it is regular, it favors the attitude that can be specified as staying away from alcohol. Based on the answers we can say that the eagerness of achieving more at the training, the improvement of results may effectively prevent the desire to take part in the meetings that take place long at night and are connected with drinking alcohol.
