This article, initially presented at the Segundo Congreso Latinoamericano de Glotopolítica (Second Latin American Conference on Glottpolitics) in Bogotá, Colombia, August 11-13, 2016, discusses the ethics of language. The author comments on the history of the relationship between language and politics in Spain and its colonies dating from the early 18th century.
