Abstract

Chikungunya fever is an acute febril disease related with severe polyarthralgias, caused by Chikungunya Virus (CHIKV) an arthropode borne virus endemic in tropical áreas, trasmitted to humans through the bite of the infected mosquito Aedes spp. In the last decade, the virus has arthralgias in the African and Asian continent, as well as the islands of the Indian Ocean, spreading to numerous regions as The Americas and Europe. This importation of the virus can be related to several factors as epidemics and the vector's large distribution globally. This is disease that presents a severe morbility and fatality which is why more understanding of the former is needed. In this review we'll describe the emergence of the disease, the clinical features, pathogenesis and new treatment achivements. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
