Abstract

The arrival of easy-to-read digital products places this method in the field of human-computer interaction. As a consequence, the comprehensibility and accessibility of the texts expands beyond the content to the accessibility of the tool and the interaction. In this paper we study the affinity between the user-centered design methodology (UCD) according to ISO 9241-210:2010 and the easy-to-read products, based on its user participation approach. Throught the results obtained by a two-way methodology, document review and empirical benchmarking of easy-to-read projects in different countries, the proximity of easy-to-read to the UCD principles was analyzed from the theoretical angle and from their practice in projects. The analysis shows that a conscious implementation of HCD principles and activities in the design of easy-to-read products would provide a solid foundation and support a successful development of digital products.
