Abstract

Sentences illocutive force mitigation is frequently in parliamentary discourse. In fact, this is a means to obtain a benefit: an increased argumentative force. But the controversial context, in which this type of discourse is inserted, usually affects the attenuating value of certain elements, becoming them an intensifying resource of acts social effects. It happens with invitar when it is used by a politician towards his adversary. It is not a true invitation, neither a simple attenuated request. It is an exhortative act whose aims an issue with repercussions on the community good. So it becomes a petition whose difficulty, though logical, rejection causes a damage to the opponent's face and attains effectively the argumentative objective: "there are good reasons to not trust, to not believe, in this politician".
