Abstract

The article discusses evidence from an Oregon study as of 2017 which shows that expansion of uninsured Medicaid coverage increased prescription medication use, specially those on chronic conditions like diabetes and mental health. It states that Medicaid increases primary and preventive care use and emergency department and hospital presentations, and that it eliminated the use of original prescription medications. Also noted is the Medicaid expansion's potential impact on the opioid epidemic.
