Abstract
- This work consists of two reports in the format of life history, provided by an interlocutor who defines herself as lesbian and an interlocutor who defines himself as gay, belonging to the urban middle layers in the city of Teresina. We explore, through this specific focus, situations experienced by gays and lesbians within their sociability networks. The network concept is used here as a resource of the ethnographic methodology developed by the Manchester School (Fry, 2011). Through it, we seek, as well as Facchini (2008), to emphasize the interpersonal relationships in a social environment unstructured and in a particular social context. The analysis of the relationship arrangements and the classificatory statuses used, as well as the positions and patterns of interaction (Mitchell, 1969), inform us about the boundaries, tensions and negotiations in the dynamics of the networks. Thus, we seek to understand how moral grammars are produced, which operate to control the behavior of individuals, as well as to reinforce certain social rules. In this sense, “honor”, “distinction” and “shame” are considered categories of analysis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
