Abstract

The article discusses the religious conflict and wars between Protestants and Catholics in late 16th century Montpellier, France, including in regard to the religious and civic identities in the region and Montepellier's sacred spaces. An overview of Catholics' conflict with Huguenots, including 1563 Peace of Amboise's requiring of Protestants to abandon Catholic churches they took over, is provided.
