Abstract

This paper focuses on the story of Three Drops of Blood by Sadegh Hedayat. Sadegh Hedayat, a writer in the periphery of his society, is recognized as one of the Iranian modern writers. The current research studies the images of soil in Three Drops of Blood by Sadegh Hedayat, which are frequently noticed in the imaginations of the characters of the story. The paper discusses how the point of view of the writer leads to imaginations resulting from this element and creates images which represent the internal feelings of the characters of the story. By analyzing the imagination of the writer through the created images and the imaginations on the element of soil, the writer's unconscious desires and imaginations which frequently reveal in his conscious level are studied. To that end, Bachelard's (1960) model of criticism was used, and as such the literary images on the element of soil are instrumental in decoding Hedayat's imagination. We analyzed the images in Three Drops of Blood emerged from the author's anxiety and worry.
