Abstract
- The activities of phytoremediation through artificial wetlands, contribute to the purification of wastewater through biological processes and physical. In the Reserve The Malmo (Tunja, Boyacá, Colombia) there is a trapping mechanism to provide domestic wastewater veredales. Waste water are discharged into the ecosystem without prior treatment, which makes it necessary to search for alternatives to mitigate the impact of discharges. In this research, implements a artificial wetland of flow subsurface with the use of Cyperus papyrus and Schoenoplectus californicus for the treatment of domestic wastewater. With this alternative leads to a reduction of total and faecal coliforms of 98.5% and 88 % respectively. Likewise, the BOD5 and COD had removals of 27.4% and 25.2%. The dissolved oxygen decreased, as did the atmosphere grew slightly acidic and anaerobic. The perception of the inhabitants of the area was positive and they are considered to be able to replicate the method to improve the characteristics of the design. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
