Abstract

There are many studies on magnetic levitation, some of which were already realized in railways. The authors in our laboratory now try to apply the magnetic levitation techniques to the steel processing industry. Therefore, we aim at the construction of magnetic levitation system for very thin steel plates. However, it is extremely difficult to levitate them perfectly, because of its vibratory properties and awkward electromagnetic properties. We have already studied the elasticity of the thin steel plate mechanically and shown its control methodology. In this research, we carry out many measurements about “the magnetic saturation and the magnetic leakage” and formulate its influence. Last, with a controller designed by considering the influence, we accomplish a stable levitation for a very thin steel plate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
